What are Flower Essences?
Flower Essences are gentle remedies made from the life force of flowering plants and trees. They were first prepared in England by Dr. Edward Bach in the late 1920’s. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Bach’s work, many other people started making their own flower, gem and environmental essences, mainly in the mid 80’s.
Flower Essences are a very natural and safe way of healing. They have no side effects and can easily be integrated into any program of care as they do not interfere with other forms of treatments.
Use Flower Essences for:
- spiritual insight and development
- inner growth, better understanding of your own life
- understanding your emotions and thoughts, giving inner balance and peace
- insight in problems and difficulties, being able to handle them or letting go
In summary, whenever emotions or thoughts are out of balance, flower essences can be helpful. For example if you have a certain fear, then you actually have a lack of courage …. Flower essences can help you get insight in the underlying reason for the fear and they will help you increase your courage (instead of suppressing the fear as some medications do).
Flower Essences for animals
Flower essences are also very helpful for animals. Animals don’t wonder what essences are or whether they work, they just respond to them, often very quickly. Flower essences work at a very deep level to alleviate suffering, remove layers of trauma and stress, and strengthen an animal’s ability to process emotional energy. Flower essences will be most effective when our animals are receiving their basic needs. In my opinion this means good nutrition, abundant exercise and nurturing, appropriate medical attention, and the freedom to live according to their natural instincts as much as possible.
It is most advantageous to work in successive dosage cycles, as each essence combination that is selected will give information about the current blockage, help to release it, and further reveal the underlying issue. For example, the animal might initially need essences for protection and grounding, and then in the next cycle will be ready to release a layer of trauma that they couldn’t previously process.
Steve Johnson (Alaskan Essences) and I wrote an article about the use of Flower Essences for animals. It was published in the Sept/Oct 2015 issue of Natural Life News & Directory. You can read it here Article Natural Life News Sept 2015
My education in Flower Essences
I followed a one year class with Bram Zaalberg (2008-2009) in The Netherlands. Bram makes the Dutch Flower Essences (Bloesem Remedies Nederland). In this class we worked a lot on our ‘mirrors’ and this means that everything you see in the outside world is a reflection of your inner world. If you don’t like what you see, do you fix the mirror, or do you work on the person looking in the mirror? That means no more trying to change the people around you or complain about them, but make the journey inside yourself and work with the flower essences to improve your inner world of feelings and thoughts!
This class, and the work on my thesis, was a beautiful journey that added so much insight and joy to my life.
In 2013 I joined a 10 day class that was taught by Bram Zaalberg and Steve Johnson from the Alaskan Essences. This class was in Homer, Alaska. In that week we made the Divine Angel, an essence made from an energy vortex. It was a very special experience that brought me back to who I really am gave me a powerful reminder to start doing what I really came here to do on this planet.
In the last few years I assisted my partner Steve in his Alaskan Essences Practitioner training in Homer, Alaska. Wonderful weeks in which everyone learned so much about the Alaskan Essences and from the teachings of Steve and we got to be in the beautiful nature that can only be found there. During these summers Steve and I made flower and gem essences and being part of that process together with Steve was an amazing experience. Every time I truly learn how much wisdom there is in Nature.
In my practice I work with the Alaskan Essences, Dutch Flower Essences, Australian Bush Essences, Desert Alchemy, Healing Herbs, Mediterranean Essences, and the African Platbos Tree Essences. Read more about consultations here.
